Remembering John Main OSB
Centenary Online Gathering
Sunday 13 September 2026
🕓 4:00–6:30pm NZ time
Join the World Community for Christian Meditation as we mark 100 years since the birth of John Main, whose teaching on Christian meditation has shaped a global contemplative community.
John Main OSB (1926–1982) was the Benedictine monk who sparked the global movement of silent prayer which inspired the World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM). To honour his legacy, in the year of his centenary, our region (Oceania) has organised this special online gathering. The link will be on the WCCM Australia webpage in September, at wccmaustralia.org.au
What to Expect During Our Gathering:
Shared Meditation: We will enter into deep stillness and meditate together as a regional community.
Honouring John Main: We will reflect on his words and hear about his extraordinary life and legacy.
Special Guest Speaker: We will hear from Father Peter Murphy who is well known in New Zealand and who currently serves as the coordinator of the residential community at the Bonnevaux Centre for Peace in France.
Surprise Guest/s!
Sacred Music: We will listen to the beautiful, uplifting sounds of the Fijian choir singing.
If appropriate you could gather with others such as your local meditation group to celebrate together, perhaps with shared refreshments.
